At Granite City Counseling we continue to marvel at the courage our clients show when they step through our doors. While the decision to pursue therapy can seem intimidating or even scary, we strive to make each client’s visitation to our clinic a positive experience by providing a warm and caring atmosphere.
Typically, when you first call for an appointment, you will be asked to come early to your scheduled appointment to fill out paperwork. You may also fill out a copy of our Intake Form found on this website under Forms and bring it to your initial appointment. Please bring your insurance card to the first meeting with your therapist. Once you arrive at the clinic, check in with the receptionist. They will make a copy of your insurance card and ask you to sign a few necessary forms.
Once this is taken care of, your therapist will come to the lobby to greet you and invite you to her or his office. The first meeting is an assessment during which your therapist will listen to your story and ask clarifying questions if necessary. Then you will both review your completed Intake Form together and discuss a diagnosis, if there is one. So, it may feel as if not a whole lot of “actual therapy” happens in this initial session; however, it can be a thoroughly therapeutic and liberating experience to just be allowed to tell your story in a safe and caring environment!
We encourage clients to actively engage in communication with us. So, please feel free to ask your therapist any questions about the process, their therapeutic style, or their philosophy.
